Dear Lion & Lamb,

I cannot begin to express the delight and astonishment I felt when we opened your package yesterday. My children were thrilled with the peaceful toys, and I am so appreciative that you took the time to positively reinforce their somewhat reluctant decision to give up their weapon toys.

I have not regretted that decision for one minute; it took a while for them to get used to it, and some of the neighborhood kids were REALLY baffled, but now even some of them are taking playmates to task for violent play.

And I am so happy not to be seeing children acting out murder and mayhem. We had confiscated the life-size weapon toys and felt that the small ones would not be such a problem, but this summer it became evident that it’s not the size of the toy, it’s the nature of it.

We thought you might like to know that rather than just confiscate the toys we did offer a financial settlement. Many of the toys came from sets the kids bought with their own allowances, and we felt that it would be unfair for us to take away toys that we had allowed them to buy without some compensation. The loss of the weapon toys was a lot easier to take once they know they would be able to buy some new toys.

We are now struggling with the video games issue…we have realized that they are more violent than we are comfortable with. We are in the process of trying to acquire some less violent games that will hold his interest. He says that if they aren’t violent they aren’t any fun, and well, let’s just say that rang some serious alarm bells in my head.

 Best wishes,

Abby
